Lab grown diamonds & gemstones
What are lab grown diamonds?
The mining of diamonds is very damaging to our environment (land degradation, water supply, etc.) and to the workers (human rights exploitation). That’s why we prefer working with lab grown diamonds.
Lab grown diamonds are created in a manmade environment, replicating their natural creation process, instead of mined.
They have a significant lower carbon footprint, are of greater quality because the entire process is controlled and are more affordable than natural ones.
The only differentiator is the origin (lab vs mine), because they have the exact same physical, optical and chemical composition as their natural equivalents.
Our lab grown diamonds are sourced in Antwerp & are all fully graded and, if bigger than 0.50 carats, come with an official certificate of the IGI (International Gemmological Institute).
Our gemstones
Recent technologies in the creation process of lab grown gemstones have been evolving as well. Depending on the availability & quality, we opt for lab grown gemstones or fair trade gemstones.
Fair trade gemstones are natural stones, but fully traceable from their origin to our studio. We work together with a trusted, Antwerp based supplier, who also joined the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC); the leading standard authority in the global jewellery industry.
We offer a range of possibilities and colours: ruby, emerald, sapphire, topaz,…
The quality of diamonds & gemstones is universally graded by the 4 Cs: Cut, Carat, Color, Clarity
When choosing diamonds and gemstones, these 4 factors play a prominent role. The better the quality, the higher the price of the stone.
1. Cut
Some examples of possible diamond & gemstone cuts are round, oval, pear, marquis, baguette & princess, …
These shapes are always available for our lab-grown diamonds. The available cuts for lab-grown gemstones depend on the type of gemstone and the color.
All possible cuts can of course always be reviewed at our studio.
2. Carat (weight)
Carat refers to the weight of the stone, so it has a direct influence on the size.
Our diamonds and gemstones are between 0.001 and 2 carats or more. As a reference: a 1-carat round diamond measures approximately 6.5x6.5 mm. An oval diamond of 0.5 carat measures approximately 7x5mm. During an appointment you will always get a clear overview of all sizes and possibilities.
3. Color
Depending on the choice of a diamond or type of gemstone, a certain colour can be chosen.
Coloured diamonds are available in colourless white, pink, blue and even yellow. Gemstones are available in almost every colour possible: colourless white or various shades of pink, blue, yellow, purple, and more.
4. Clarity
Diamonds have a variety of internal & external characteristics. No diamond is 100% pure because each one is unique, so they are divided into categories. Most of the time, it’s very hard to see with the naked eye, but we’ll talk through all of this during an appointment.
